Little Steps


I truly believe that comparison is the thief of joy. This is a well known proverb but it has never been more relevant than it is today with social media and the celebrity culture that we live in. We are constantly faced with everyone else's successes and victories, all the challenges are hidden from us, leading everyone to believe that we have none. We end up comparing our reality to everyone else's "best of". This can leave us feeling like the gap between where we are and where we want to go is too big for us to handle, leaving us stuck in a rut where we are so overwhelmed by the idea of creating positive habits that we choose not to bother.

If you are wanting to make some changes in your world to live a healthier, happier lifestyle you don't need to be intimidated by the "gap". You don't suddenly need to be going to the gym every day and only drinking green smoothies. Just stay committed to taking little steps everyday that will help you get on your way. Here are a few tips for you if you are wanting to develop some healthy habits:

Have a goal - Know where you want to go, know what you want to achieve. Speak it out then make one choice every day that will take you one step closer to achieving that goal. When you have a clear vision in your mind of where you are going, the path becomes clearer. Write it down, attach purpose and meaning to your goals and you still start to create ways to see them come to pass.

Simple swaps - Make a few really easy substitutes in your diet or in your routine. Swap your white bread for wholemeal or rye bread, try brown rice, buy fresh vegetables and make your own sauces. Wake up 20 minutes earlier so you don't have the stressful rush in the morning. Take a packed lunch to work so you don't fill up on the snacks they provide. Drink water instead of soft drinks. These little changes may seem small but they are a great way to start and you will feel the benefits of it, which will motivate you to continue. 

Try something new - Look at different activities and classes that are available to you in your local area and find something that you really enjoy. This can be a dance or yoga class, it might be an art class or a book club. Get yourself in an environment where you have fun. This might be a workout class but this could also be something that you find really relaxes and refreshes you. I think trying anything new is great for breaking out of 'being in a rut' and inspires you to step out in other areas.  

Don't compare - Keep your eyes down on the race that you are running. Be the best version of you that you can be and let that be your motivation. Comparing with others will rob your joy and disable you from moving forward successfully. Keep making little choices today that bring you closer to where you want to be tomorrow. Compare who you are today with who you were yesterday and feel empowered that you are growing, flourishing and blooming into the person you are called to be.

Let the love you have for you and the people in your world be the motivation you need to really be the best version of you that you can be. Don't be intimidated by the gap of where you are and where you want to be, just take little steps every day, make good choices and before you realise it that gap will start to close. By embracing the journey you will have created a beautiful story to tell and a victory to share.
